Sunni cleric says vigilant nation attends election to decide for its fate

Zahedan, May 26, IRNA – A Sunni Friday prayers leader in southeastern Iran believes that Iranian nation are vigilant and will participate in the upcoming presidential election across Iran to decide for their fate.

Molavi Abdolrahim Rigianpour, Sunni Friday prayers leader of Mirjaveh, a city in southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan, made the remarks in an interview with IRNA on Wednesday.

Participation in election is "a religious duty" and a respect for objectives of Imam Khomeini - the father of the Islamic Revolution, the Sunni cleric said.

During the past years, enemies, arrogant powers, and global Zionism have in vain been trying to downgrade people’s participation in Iran’s elections, he added.

Despite the sanctions, Iran will powerfully stand on its own feet, the Sunni cleric stressed.

Iran’s 13th presidential election will be held simultaneously with the sixth round of municipal council elections for the cities and villages, the first mid-term for 11th round of parliamentary by-election, and the second mid-term for the fifth round of Assembly of Experts' election on June 18.

On May 25, Iran’s Ministry of Interior released the names of seven presidential hopefuls who have been qualified by the Guardian Council so far.
